writing-makes-anythingMy foray into writing began innocently enough with a post title “Wake Up Your Creative Mind”. My initial posts centered around everyday events in my life and how they related to the way the world works. Or, at least how I perceived that the world works. It was a cathartic experience in many different ways. It helped me to make sense of the world around me, and maybe more importantly, the world inside my head. I was sure this was all I would ever do, write non-fictional personal essays. I was wrong.

About a year after that first post, my son trekked off to summer camp. It was the first time that he had ever been away from home for more than a day. I am not sure whether it was more difficult for him, or for us, his parents. I suspect there is more truth to the latter. In any event, as a means to stay connected over the course of this summer camp week that felt more like a summer camp year, I composed a short story, made of five parts, delivered once a day to his base camp. It was one of the first fictional short stories that I had ever written. It began a love of storytelling that continues to the present day.

What began as short snippets of a story under 500 words gradually stretched out to several pages. The evolution in length continued as I penned my first short story over 5,000 words and then compiled a novella that exceeded the 12,000 word mark. I was never one to focus on word count. I simply told a story in the number of words it required. I was sure, however, that I would never want or be able to author a full length novel. I was wrong again, and I couldn’t have been happier that I was.

This page will hopefully grow with me, including meaningful stories of the longer variety that continue to live true to my mantra, inspire and be inspired. Thank you for visiting and following along on my lifelong journey with the written word.
